Suzuki Gixxer SF Ecstar Review.
The two-wheeler segment started increasing in India and people also started loving the premium bikes. We have seen lots of bikes representing their brands. Back in 2014 Suzuki launched the Gixxer which grew the sales and later a year the Gixxer SF was brought into the market which is a Gixxer wearing a fiber coat. Updating technology has also made Bikes more advanced. In early 2018 the Gixxer SF Ecstar has been launched with some intelligent touches to the ongoing model. Recently we got an opportunity to test the bike and we have posted the Suzuki Gixxer SF Ecstar Review.
Suzuki Gixxer SF Ecstar Review of Styling.
This is the term where the Gixxer SF melts the heart of the riders with its funky design. There is no change in the design and Gixxer SF Ecstar continues the funky and Sporty styling known to the previous version. The Gixxer SF Ecstar executes huge and massive stance. The headlamp is carried from the Gixxer but addition of some fiber has made it look bigger. One can also notice the fine strips which along with the Ecstar logo, which is a new touch to the front end. Also, the Gixxer SF Ecstar comes with AHO function. The fenders on either side of the headlamp look mindboggling. It also gets a windshield above the mirror holders.
From the side the huge Suzuki badging on the fender catches lot of attention making it look sporty even being incomplete. The Gixxer SF Ecstar looks more aerodynamic, thanks to the proper flowing design. The side skirts and the body get matched smoothly. The twin exhaust too executes sporty stance with the giggling sound. At the rear, it gets flying mudguard and just above sits the triangular shaped taillamp. The alloys get a circumfered highlight colour as per your colour scheme. Overall design feels balanced and proportioned presenting sporty character to the Gixxer SF Ecstar. The material quality feels moderate, but comparing the price point it’s a good pick.
Suzuki Gixxer SF Ecstar Review of Cluster Unit.
The Cluster unit here is similar to all the premium Suzuki bikes. This cluster unit gets fully digital display. It gets large font for the speed, the tachometer is placed on the top in horizontal. In addition, it gets two trip meters, clock and gear position and shift indicator. The screen is fitted on the black plastic and at the bottom ends you can find the controls. On the left side of the console, you can find the turn indicator reminder and Upper beam indicator. While on the right side flashes the LEDs of right turn indicator reminder, ABS and neutral light. There’s also a flashing LED as you hit the set RPM. The switches feel up to mark and have the quality which helps the Intruder gain a premium touch.
Similar to other bikes, the Gixxer SF gets an engine kill switch located in the right space on the handle bar, above the starter. The left handle bar has spaces reserved for switches of horn, lower and upper beam and turn indicators. The switches feel tacky and genuine to use.
Suzuki Gixxer SF Ecstar Review of Seating and Comfort.
The Gixxer SF Ecstar may shine bigger than other bikes, but it’s a Gixxer with some fiber add-on. The Ecstar too doesn’t resemble any change in the riding position. It may not employ you a sporty stance like riding a sporty bike. The ride feels comfortable and you don’t need to stress your back to bend forward. The foot pegs on offer are placed just below the rider’s seat. The handle bar is proper heighted and provides an easy catch to handle the bike. The seat for the pillion is not so broad and feels skinny. The grab rails are fine to be gripped, but the foot pegs feel high mounted. Overall seating position of the rider is appropriate but the pillion may be uncomfortable over the long journeys.
Suzuki Gixxer SF Ecstar Review of Performance.
The Gixxer SF Ecstar gets an all new fuel injected 155 cc engine. This motor is equipped with six sensors to calculate optimum amount of fuel to be injected for better combustion, also the addition of Suzuki SEP is present. This motor makes out 14.8 HP @ 8000 rpm and 14 Nm of torque @ 6000 rpm. The motor is refined and feels very smooth when operational. The throttle response is upto the mark and is always ready to pull the bike. Low and medium end are on the strong side. The punch can be felt in the mid-range which is strong and makes in the fun. No complaint arises regarding the NVH, as this motor feels super refined.
There is no change in the gearbox, it’s the same 5-speed unit, but now the shifting feels very smooth. There is ample of torque right from the low end and makes it redline at 9500 rpm. The motor feels happy to be revved in 60-70 kmph. Post 70 kmph, the sound of engine goes high. Suzuki has also focused in the fuel efficiency department and claims 63 kmpl as ideal. The high end too is smooth and don’t let the vibration tune into the bike. These motor suits the highway ride and has the fun to drive character. Journey upto 95 kmph feels easy but revving above requires some struggle. Overall this engine feels best suited for the Gixxer and makes the ride happy.
Suzuki Gixxer SF Ecstar Review of Riding Dynamics.
There is no change in the ride character of the Gixxer SF. Somehow the ride feels similar to the Gixxer as there is not much difference in their weight. Recently it gets a 7-step adjustable rear mono shock suspension and at the front are the 41 mm forks. The tuning of rear mono shock is somewhat on the stiffer side, but the front forks feels very smooth. Cornering this bike in addition makes in the sporty feel inside the rider. The city driving also feels comfortable and the lower gears act very appropriate.
The riding position may feel similar to common bikes, but it imposes the rider an active look. The braking system equipped in the Gixxer SF Ecstar has dual disc and single channel ABS. The rear brake doesn’t provide the required bite to stop the wheel. The front brake has the power to grab the wheel and deaccelerate. Combing both the brakes makes a good experience. The tyres are wide and has the proper grip to make the moves on the road. Overall the ride quality of the Gixxer SF Ecstar feels more fun to drive.
Suzuki Gixxer SF Ecstar Review :- Conclusion.
Starting form the design, the Gixxer SF presents a premium and sleek design with those curves and edges. Moving ahead, the cluster unit feels premium but is the similar offered on the other Suzukis. The quality is moderate along with proper finish all around. The seating is similar to the other bikes and doesn’t make your back pain which is a plus point, but doesn’t imposes sporty stance to the rider. The addition of FI has increased the tuning of motor and feels far high than the carburetor motor and also is high on fuel efficiency. The riding dynamics are similar to the Gixxer and feels fun to drive bike.
Overall this bike feels spending some extra money compared to the regular Gixxer. But overhauling the competition, it seems value for money package. The Gixxer SF feels made for young buyers and is priced aggressively to woo the buyers in this segment.
