Since now, the discontinuity of the Honda Brio was not official. But Honda’s Senior VP has stated that the Honda Amaze to be the entry level car in the Honda Car Family. From now, Honda will stop the production of the Brio. Further HCIL says they have no plans for the next generation Brio, which was launched in Thiland.
In an interview with PTI, Mr Rajesh Goel, Senior VP, Director (Sales and Marketing) said, “Our entry car is now Amaze. We have stopped production of Brio and as of now, we do not intend to bring next-generation Brio into India.”
The Honda Brio was launched back in 2011 to rival the likes of MS Swift, Hyundai i10 and the VW Polo. Brio was an entry level hatchback offered by Honda India. Under the hood of the Brio was a 1.2 L petrol engine and no Diesel option. First it was offered only in manual, but later an automatic variant was introduced. But now onwards, the production of the Brio will stop.
When launched, the Brio had all positives, which you would expect from a Honda Car. Compared to the rivals today, the Brio has became an outdated product and also lack for features. With no Diesel option on offer, it was another down turning point for the buyers. Also, when compared the sales figures of the car in these segment, Brio was low on sales. Furthermore, when sales of year 2017 and 2018 were compared, the sales were down by 58%.
Honda launched the next generation Brio in Thailand. Recently, the next gen Amaze was launched in India and is the second best seller in compact sedan segment. But, Honda claims not to take the Brio further in Inida, may be they want to focus on the premium offerings.
