The Global NCAP test carried on the Hyundai Elite i20 which is being sold in Africa. Hyundai Motors India limited exports cars to more than 80 countries including Africa, so the test model is similar to the one in India. Hyundai Elite i20 is sold in two engine options 1.2 L Petrol and 1.4 L Diesel. The test was carried out in a campaign named ‘Safer Cars of Africa’.
Specification of car used for crash test.
The car tested was the 2018 model. In terms of safety, it comes with Dual airbags and ABS on all four wheels, front seatbelt pre-tensioners. Also, the car tested wasn’t the top trim of the India bound Hyundai Elite i20. The test car did not have side airbags nor knee airbags and has a kerb weight of 1286 Kgs. The structure of the tested Hyundai Elite i20 is different from the European spec model as well is it also misses out on Electronic Stability control.
NCAP Results for Hyundai Elite i20.
According to Global NCAP, the made in India Hyundai Elite i20 scores three star rating for the adult occupant and two star rating for the child occupant. The test was carried out at a speed of 64 kmph. Furthermore, the report claims, that the Bodyshell and the footwell area to be unstable.
In adult occupant protection category, the i20 scored 10.15 points out of 17 points, whereas 18.16 points in child protection from 49 points.
Hyundai Elite i20 India Safety features.
The India bound Hyundai Elite i20 gets equipped with dual airbags ABS as standard. The top trim ASTA(O) gets equipment of Six airbags (dual airbags + curtain airbags + front-seat airbags), Speed sensing door lock and Impact sensing door unlock. In addition, it also receives Engine Immobilizer, Engine start/stop switch, keyless entry, Reverse Parking camera with sensors, cornering lamps and automatic headlamps.
