From the launch of the Swift, it is consistently the best-selling in the Indian market and now it’s the third generation which compels a genuinely creative and sporty avatar. The hatchback segment represents the first choice of the urban crowd for their compactness to escape through the city traffic. Launched back in 2005 the swift has persistently been a king in the sales and is more preferred by people, over its competitors. To hold the lead, Suzuki has completely changed the swift to command the attention of the buyers by introducing its third generation. Recently we got an opportunity to test the new Swift and here comes our Maruti Suzuki Swift Review.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Review of Design Philosophy
When it comes to design, the DZire when launched gave us some hint about how the Swift will look. So, at the front, it gets the hexagonal grill with horizontal slats which are closely placed. On the grille sits the Suzuki badging and the number plate. The headlamp unit is similar to that observed on the Suzuki DZire. This headlamp unit look dominant and the big DRLs shines bright light and are clearly visible, it also gets projector unit and some where the housing appears like a petal. On the bumper, the round fog lamps within the black inserts flowing from one side to other gives the car a pleasant look.
Moving on the side, you may notice no design change is made, but some graphical accents can be observed. The first thing observed is the vanishing of rear door handles and shifting over C-pillar. Furthermore, Suzuki has made the C-pillar black in order to produce a floating roof effect which executes the Swift an aerodynamic look. Now, it runs on the new sparkling 15” alloys and the design is really matched with the car’s overall appeal.
Coming towards the rear end, advancement can be seen in those C-shaped LED tail lamps. The rear windshield appears to be square and has a rear wiper. The boot opening door looks adequate and makes some space at the corners for the tail lamps. What can also be noticed is the new housing for the number plate on the rear bumper. The rear don’t looks much appealing as the front and side profile looks, but it gets matched in the design. Overall the Maruti Suzuki Swift is a good looker and shines outstanding.
The Interiors are completely altered to oblige you feel best. As soon as you open the door and peek into the cabin, you can feel the extensive black treatment with silver inserts. The universal design executes it more premium and upmarket feel. The theme here is made circular which is reflected in AC vents, AC controls, power sockets. The fit and finish also sound good with flattering plastic quality. Furthermore, all these visuals make the cabin of the new Swift look sport.
The central console of the dashboard gets two circular AC vents as well as on the either side their presence can be seen. Just below the central AC vents, there a 7” infotainment system. This infotainment is similar to the one observed on its siblings. The sound is thrown out by 4-speakers and 4-tweeters and the quality is appropriate. It gets equipped with Android Auto, Apple car play and inbuilt navigation maps. The system is easy to operate and no buttons can be observed. Suzuki has also done the job well by placing of the AC controls in a circular patterns, which makes design reflection in the cabin.
The steering wheel feels good to hold and gets controls for the infotainment. Also, ergonomics of the steering maintains the confidence level while driving the all new Swift. Just below the steering, the MID cluster unit sits with two analog dials and a central display. The design of the MID too looks amazing and views Fuel efficiency, distance to empty and provides two trip meters.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Review of Seating and Comfort.
The Front seats are quite worthy and sustain you in the tight corners with big bolsters and provide proper amount of support. The Automatic climate control Air conditioner increases comfort for the frontiers. The rear seats are benched type with 60:40 split adjustment, the knee room and headroom are adequate. Whereas it can’t manage three adults at the rear comfortably. But having a ride for four makes in more comfort. The transmission tunnel also is short and makes good leg space for the passenger sitting in between.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Review of Storage.
In terms of storage, you gain 268 liters of boot space, a glovebox and also door pockets to contain the 1-liter bottles. The placement of the boot isn’t the best and feels moderate.
In terms of safety, it comes loaded with dual airbags as standard. It also gets ABS and EBD, reverse parking camera and sensors, Engine Immobilizer, Keyless entry, etc. for the top trims.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Review of 1.3 L Diesel – 5 Speed Manual.
The Swift is sourced with Fiat’s 1.3 L Diesel engine which can also be observed on the other Suzuki’s This motor is capable of developing 74 HP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm @ 2,000 rpm. The engine uses a fixed geometry turbo charger and has some idling sound. The NVH levels are adequately maintained and while turning on the engine, you can feel the vibration of steering. Get going and the engine noise gets low. Now, driving it at low RPMs may introduce power lag in your drive, but rev above 1600 RPM and make it vanish. The drive feels good even for city as Maruti Suzuki has done the job well in terms of tuning the engine for the city use. Another positive aspect is the car can be launched even in second gear on the plain road.
Revving the new swift on highways make the new Swift more silent while doing three digit speeds thanks to the proper tuning of the gearbox. Also, the clutch in the new swift is on the lighter side to make your drive comfortable. When you have reached 100 kmph the tachometer goes above 2000 rpm. Redlining the engine doesn’t feels well, but making it go smoothly makes your drive even better and also saves your fuel. The gear shifts are also smooth but sometimes there is a rubbery feel in the lever, also revving the car above 3500 RPM makes the lever wobble. Overall the engine feels moderate to drive and don’t feels enthusiastic as the petrol motor.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Review of Driving Statistics.
Underpinning the Suzuki Swift is the all new heartech platform similar to the Baleno, DZire and Ignis, this platform helps the Swift reduce her weight. A McPherson strut type suspension is used for the front shock absorbing duty whereas it gets torsion beam setup at the rear. The tuning of the suspension can be observed on the stiffer side. The ride don’t feels soft it makes the bumps from the road enter in. Also, the rear is bouncy on the speed breakers if you don’t slow down. The suspension do their duty well on the Highways and car can be felt stable despite of having low weight. Body roll is properly controlled and cornering doesn’t feels any issue.
The steering on this car feels genuine and ha the proper feedback even at low speeds. This makes the swift a really fun to drive car as you can make your moves during overtakes. What I really liked about the Swift is it drives as it looks. It can escape through the city traffic easily and also parking on tight spot isn’t any issue. Similar to the old car, the new Swift too gets front discs and rear drum brakes. But here’s some more braking power as it gets equipped with ABS and EBD. The brake pedal has a very less travel and bites quickly on the wheels. Also, braking the Swift harder isn’t any issue any stops without any Drama.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Review :- Conclusion.
The swift has now improved frequently not only in its design but in each and every remarkable piece. We didn’t merely consider the pleasing design, unique elements, floating roof, new plush interiors but having a test drive we concluded the swift to remain the impressive and distinct choice for the latest as well as old buyers. The Diesel engine not only goes high on performance compared to before and also manages to increase the drive experience. Thinking about all the aspects the Swift can now grip the competition one sided.
