Tata Nexon Review

Tata has now started to hold back its grip in the automobile sector by presenting its new and improved products. The sub-compact SUV segment is just rolling out on Indian streets. The DNA of SUV with addition of compactness is all it meant to be. Improving Tata products also entered the competition through its player, named Nexon. Its main competitors are the EcoSport and Vitara Brezza. But being late to the party make it on the move? Let’s find out in the Tata Nexon Review.

Tata Nexon Review of Design Philosophy.

Tata Nexon Review

I was impressed at first look, when I viewed the Nexon. It just stands premium and appealing and deliberates being SUV don’t need to be boxy. Tata calls this design language as impact 2.0 design language which looks more modernistic. Starting from the front end, it gets huge headlamps with Projectors and U-shaped DRLs in them. The Impact design 2.0 has also provided the Tata Humanity line below the hexagonal mesh Grille. Also the ceramic white inserts carrying the fog-lamps present a unique draw. The bumper with three slats presents it a unique texture. Nexon uses lots of curves and looks bold at the front.

Moving towards the side, one can first notice the ‘ check mark ‘ styled ceramic white strip below the window. The roof rails are short and sweet and sit above the grey top. Whereas the Big wheel arches with 16” diamond cut alloy wheels make it stand muscular. The rear is a busy design with tri-colours making it look more futuristic. At the rear the wishbone styled design be around an eye catching insert and really looks unique. The rear also looks up lifted because of the dual toned bumper. Overall, Tata has nicely placed all the design elements with the Nexon.

The Interior of the Nexon also don’t let you down. Wear your band and jump into the cabin with keyless-go. It gets a three toned dashboard and also proper use of gentle touches is observed. Also the Big central tunnel issues it an upmarket feel bringing in premiumness. One can then notice floating 6.5” Infotainment embedded with Android auto, but something interesting here is replying your messages through voice commands. The touch response is good, but the system feels a bit lazy. The output of the infotainment is led out by eight ‘ Harman ‘ powered speakers to make your ride joyful. Placement of AC controls over the black glossy surface with lots of switches make it look top-notch.

The Steering also feels proper to hold with Tilt and Telescopic adjustments. It also gains the controls for AVN and voice commands. Take a look behind the steering for the cluster, which gets two analog meters for speed and RPM. It also offers fuel efficiency and distance to empty records, trip meters with indicators and warning lamps.

Tata Nexon Review of Seating and Comfort.

The seats of the Nexon are skillfully fabricated to provide you best in class support. The Driver seat is six way adjustable and provides a commanding position. On top it also gets an automatic climate control for the frontiers which properly throws the air. Moving in the rear seats, these also manage your ride comfortably with plenty of head and knee room. It too gets a rear armrest with cup holders and rear AC vents. The Cabin then feels airy and gives the passengers a raised seating position.

Tata Nexon Review of Storage.

In terms of storage, it utilizes 350 liters of boot space and 60:40 split seats which can be completely flat. It too gets a cooled glove box with a tab holder. Something special here is the slider covered storage for cup holders and also space below the armrest. The door pockets are also big enough to hold a liter bottle.

The Nexon comes packed with dual airbags ABS, EBD and cornering stability as standard. On the top trims it also offers reverse camera and parking sensors.

Tata Nexon Review of 1.5 Liter Diesel – 6 speed Manual.

This turbocharged motor has a displacement of 1497cc. It also makes out 108 HP and 260 Nm of torque. This is a four cylinder refined motor also known as a Revotorq and offers Eco, Sport and City driving modes to vary the performance. It has the performer characteristics in the mid torque and power lag noticed in the low end is minimal. The power delivery is linear throughout the mid-range. The six speed transmission, help it rev smooth on highways in high speed. The gears also feel smooth but offers long throws. Among the driving modes, the Sports mode commits you feel the Punch, whereas the Eco mode concentrates on efficiency and the city mode make city drives easy.

Shift it into sports mode and get going with the Nexon. The engine refinement is better with balanced NVH. Initially picking the car from the rest isn’t any issue. The power gets in as you rev above 1500 rpm with a proper throttle response. Having provided it with a 6-speed gearbox don’t disturb the ride over high speeds. But too much on the Sports mode can cause you burn more fuel and produces about 17 kmpl. We, also tested the Nexon in Eco mode and observed efficiency of 21 kmpl with proper shifts and moderate RPM range. The clutch in addition is on the lighter side but not completely. Overall the Nexon engine feels impressive and has lot of power beneath.

Tata Nexon Review of Driving Statistics.

As mentioned above the Nexon provides a commanding road position. It assists the driver for proper road judgment. The cabin is quite even if the car is idle and also on the roads. The front is provided with Dual path Macpherson strut with coil springs and the rear attached to twist beam with coil spring. The suspension setup is tuned very nicely to maintain comfort inside the cabin for the surfers. Driving through rough roads also isn’t unstable and the Nexon balances proper. Some amount of roll can be experienced at high speeds in corners but vanishes as the speeds are down.

The steering also provides proper feedback and is light on low speeds but weighs up on rapid pace. Also, the steering feels good to hold and promises the confidence to move the car over tight corners and shifting lanes. Purely the Driving character of the Nexon is far better than I thought. In terms of braking, it gets front discs and rear drums with provision of ABS and EBD. The brake pedal too has a proper response and the system also provides nice bite to the wheels. Even harsh braking isn’t any issue but don’t forget to put your seat belts.

Tata Nexon Review :- Conclusion.

Taking a look over the Nexon, I can say no matter its late in the segment, it is made for the futuristic experience. What impressed me is the design language Tata presented and lots of distinct features. Not only the exterior, but the interior too has the coolness in the cabin. It also persuades a energetic and linear power delivering motor. Improved dynamics also make it active on road conditions. All this reasons makes the Nexon a fun to drive car within the price limit.
