Tata Tigor Review.
The sub compact sedans have gained lot of demand in the Indian market, this segment was started by the Tata Indigo CS. For the compactness they offer make them city friendly and also are preferred for family use. Since the launch of Tiago, Tata motors has raised up its name in the passenger vehicle segment. Tigor is the booted version of Tata Tiago, with lots of features. Launched as the concept Kite5 in the autoexpo, is on the road with a badge of Tigor having a title name ‘Styleback’. Recently we got an opportunity to test drive the car for Tata Tigor Review.
Tata Tiago Review of Design Philosophy.
Being a Tiago based Sedan, there’s not much difference in the styling at the front. The front grille is similar to the one on the Tiago, and the Tata Humanity line. Projector headlamps are offered on the Top trim and they also get smoked out treatment. The front design feels smooth and the grille flows continuous in the headlamps. Tigor also gets huge and round fog lamps with a circumferal chrome outline. Have a look from the side and you can notice the styleback is dominating into the car. Just look at the roof line flowing toward the end tip, and presenting a coupe stance. The noticeable 15” alloy wheels are available only on the Petrol top trim, whereas the Diesel version gets 14” Alloy wheels. The chrome line below the window adds more style and raises at the back end, also the B-pillar gets black treatment.
The rear end matches the design and has creative glance. The chrome line flows into the taillamps and give them a C-shaped look. The tail lamps look sleek and being in a C-shape makes it appealing. Also have a close look and you will notice the honeycomb pattern on it. It also gets a long LED braking light strip on the wind shield, which glances enchanting at night. It also gets a rear spoiler. The rear bumper gets a dual-tone treatment and flat reflectors, but a reverse light only on the left side. Overall the design looks balanced and has the DNA of styleback in the design language. All the elements act genuine and make it stylsh.
The interiors of the Tigor too look appealing, it gets a black treatment and the inserts of exterior colour near the AC vents. This cabin grows a sporty appeal to the car. All the things are also well placed inside the cabin. A 5-inch touch screen infotainment adds a premium touch to the cabin and is placed in gloss black border including the central AC vents. This infotainment unit gets lots of switches for ease of operation and outputs through Harman Powered 8 speakers. In terms of connectivity, it gets Juke car play application to connect your smartphone through Bluetooth.
Just below this infotainment unit, it gets controls for drive modes and fog lamps switch. Also, the AC switches are carefully placed below and are easy to access from the driver seat. The glossy gear knob in addition adds more sportiness to the cabin. All the elements are quality rich with descent fit and finish.
The steering wheel too is crafted neatly and has proper dimensions for easy holding. It gets tilt adjustment and also the controls for Infotainment, but misses out on telescopic adjustment. Just behind the steering the MID unit placed also executes distinct look. It gets a beautiful silver border with black panel. The speedo is placed on the right side whereas the tachometer sits on left side. It also gets a small screen, which displays dual trip meters, fuel efficiency, distance to empty and door ajar. In order to set/reset the trip meters two knobs can be found just below the screen. All the elements look well placed and really shine awesome.
Tata Tigor Review of Seating and Comfort.
The Seats of Tigor are properly fabricated to provide you best comfort. The Driver seat is six way adjustable and provides descent road presence. Tigor then offers automatic climate control and the dark colour of the cabin doesn’t make in the airy feel. The rear benches also manage to boost up comfort level with plenty of knees but limited head room. It also provides rear AC vents and an armrest for more comfort boost.
Tata Tigor Review of Storage.
Tigor offers 419 liters of best in class boot space and you can also see the hydraulic struts not disturbing the boot area. It also offers a glove box with tab holder and some space beside the gear knob. The door bins also are large enough to accommodate one-liter bottle.
Tigor comes packed with dual airbags, ABS, EBD and cornering stability as standard. Top trim also offers speed sensing door lock.
Tata Tigor Review of 1.2 L Petrol – 5-speed manual.
Tata has similar 1.2 L petrol unit called as Revotron, which is also found in the Tiago. It is a three-cylinder unit with four valves per cylinder. It develops 84 HP at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque. In idle condition, some vibrations enter into the cabin, also addition of balancing shaft have minimized them as compared to the Tiago. The motor is quite punchy in low torques but raising above induces some vibration. Going up on speed may cause the performance to slow down and make it noisier. Rev it above 1500 rpm you can notice the sound tuning in. At mid-level the sound gets rough alike to the Diesel, but disappear soon.
The motor revs happy between 1500 rpm to 3000 rpm also redlining it feels very good as the flow of fuel is never disturbed. Driving in the city feels adequate and the motor doesn’t suit enthusiasm. If you like to rev your car happily then the motor feels descent. Transmission duty is carried out by a 5-speed unit, throws are medium. The clutch too is smooth and has minimal travel to make the shifts fast. The highway ride is good enough, but to overtake, you need to properly shift in the range of the motor. When you go hard on the throttle you cannot notice the lag present if you are following speed to torque ratio. Overall the engine feels good enough for the daily routes.
Tata Tigor Review of Driving Statistics.
The Tigor gets properly tuned suspension and Tata has really made the job well. The driving dynamics of the Tata cars is also maintained in the Tigor. Driving on small potholes, maintain the smoothness, also the larger once are absorbed without any thud. Cornering stability of the Tiago is excellent, as very minimal body roll is induced. The passengers at the rear seat too are stable while cornering. The high-speed highway rides are stable below 95 kmph. Even it doesn’t let you reduce your speed on rough roads.
The steering wheel is well dimensioned and feels proper to hold. It is electrically powered unit and communicates well. At low speeds it is light and weighs up decently post 35 kmph. Confidence level is maintained which is a positive point of this car. Also, it is alive at the center band and donot understeer. The braking unit is ABS and EBD equipped and has a proper bite. The pedal too has short travel and is good in response. Furthermore, Tata has also added cornering stability, which really plays it role well when you are cornering and reduces oversteer.
Tata Tigor Review :- Conclusion.
After spending some hours with Tigor, I am impressed with its design. Also, the interiors too look sporty and appealing. In terms of in car entertainment, the Tigor will never let you down. The Motor will feel moderately powered, but is suitable for normal touring. Riding dynamics are excellent being a compact sedan. Furthermore, the car feels best suited for family and also stands worth its price range.
